Project: Hillside, Danville CA Residence: This project is a tear-down of an existing 2500 SF home on 1.5 acres in West Danville and the construction of a new 5500 SF contemporary home which features the surrounding beauty of Mount Diablo. A bold blend of steel, wood and glass is the heart of this unique custom home which will be complemented by a secluded pool and cabana. Donato Builders assembled and managed the designing consultants and constructed the entire project for a Total Cost of $2,000,000. In Progress

 

Project: Warsaw, Livermore CA Residence: The Warsaw project is a whole house remodel which will transform a 1970’s ranch to a semi-contemporary craftsman. The entry door, garage door, RV gates and garden gate were all made from 6/4 & 8/4 Poplar and custom made resawn cedar panels with 2 ½” mortise and tenon joinery with walnut tenon pegs. The exterior was replaced with new double hung windows, hardie-plank and shingle siding, mitered trim and porch beams, new roof framing and skylights, new front porch, redwood retaining walls and white concrete hardscape. Interior will include quarter-sawn white oak millwork, handmade tiles, oak flooring and theater room. In progress.

 

Project: Chatelaine, Danville CA Residence: A contemporary major renovation project consisting of new kitchen, family room, master bathroom and guest bathroom. A beautiful blend of white slabs, mosque tiles, walnut millwork and accents, see-through linear fireplaces, thoughtful lighting and a major AV entertainment system integrated throughout. Cost: $300,000 Complete 2016.

 

Project: CCC Deputy Sheriff’s Association: A 3400 SF renovation to the DSA facility located in Martinez, CA which includes design management, building evaluation of the existing structures and systems, construction management and public agency coordination. Project was placed on hold after the permit phase. Total Cost: $850,000

 

Project: Foster City: A residential whole house remodel which included a new kitchen, guest bathroom, master bathroom, new tile and carpet throughout, new windows, doors and trim, re-texturing of all interior walls, 30 new LED recessed lights, a new gas line and repainting of the interior and exterior. All design work provided by DBI and our consultants.

Total Cost: $150,000

 

Project: Oakland Police Officer’s Association: Tenant Improvements to divide 7,260 SF into two separate shop spaces to house the ASR Uniform Shop and the San Francisco Credit Union. DBI provided the designing consultants, lease agreement coordination and managed the permitting requirements in addition to building out the shop spaces. The entire project was scheduled within a 4 week window which included: demolition, framing, drywall, HVAC, electrical, new storefronts, cabinetry, painting and flooring and was completed as scheduled.

Total Cost: $185,000

 

Project: Oak Tree Farms: A complete kitchen remodel with home theater which included design, cabinetry, beautiful Fusion granite countertops & island, electrical relocation, drywall, paint and finishes. Total Cost: $105,000

 

Project: Danville: A complete redesign of the kitchen which included new windows, strong walls, new floor joist and framing, drywall, walk-in pantry, exterior siding, granite, cabinets stone floors and painting throughout.

Total Cost: $88,000

 

Project: City of Oakland Maintenance Facility: DBI was contracted to provide new concrete foundations for a 6,000 SF steel building to house equipment and materials In the City of Oakland Maintenance Facility Yard. The scope included the building layout, foundation excavation, concrete reinforcing, structural steel column bolts installation, formwork, concrete placement and finish and the installation of several steel bollards.

Total Cost: $82,000

 

Project: Alameda County Sheriff Archive Building: Relocate and rebuild the historical guard tower structure located at the Santa Rita Jail facility. It was a pleasure to participate in this historical renovation of the original guard tower used in the 1950’s. Design, foundations, framing, trim, roofing, stairs, railings and paint. Total Cost: $24,000

 

Project: Huston Residence is a major 1600 SF addition / renovation to a 3,500 SF home located in rural Castro Valley, which centered on a new library suite, fossil display room and a master retreat with elegant contemporary architecture. Highlights and features include Madagascar Ammonite Fossil Limestone, Handcrafted Jatoba Cherry Floors and Cabinetry, Stainless Steel Railings, Glass Walls and an elaborate domestic hot water system consisting of three 200,000 btu, computer controlled tank-less water heaters with programmable re-circulating  pumps. Completed 3-2-12 Total Cost: $465,000

 

Project: Martin Residence is a lovely 4,500 SF Mediterranean Custom Home with pool and cabana positioned on a secluded cul-de-sac just off Foothill Blvd, Pleasanton, Ca. The Client has received the City’s Design Review approvals and expects to start construction later this year. Mr. DiDonato has provided the construction budgets, project schedule and assembled the consultants to complete the construction documents for permit. Project was sold, Estimated Cost: $1.7 million.

 

Project: Tofino Row located at 277 N. L Street, Livermore, CA is an 8 unit Craftsman ROW house development which was completed on 3-3-08. These Craftsman bungalows range from 1385 to 1705 SF, 2-story homes with open floor plans, basements and Craftsman amenities throughout. This was an exclusive Donato Builders development. Mr. DiDonato managed the land acquisition, entitlements, design development and built the entire project which received the City of Livermore Beautification Award for 2011. Total Cost: $3.6 million.

Metroplex Centre located at 1401 Willow Pass Road in Concord is a 10-story, 237,250 SF concrete poured in place class A office building with a 7-story 420,000 SF parking garage. The office building is an elaborate mixture of cast in place concrete, white architectural precast concrete, granite, marble and specialty performance glass with colored glazing. The poured in place parking garage included a decorative exterior elevator and a mammoth footprint of 60,000 SF. Project completed in 2003. Cost: $38 million. Client: Seecon Financial & Construction Co.

Cypress Hotel located at 10050 South De Anza Blvd in Cupertino is a 9-story, four star, 234 room, 209,000 SF Boutique Hotel, Restaurant and Lounge with 3 floors of underground parking. The structure consists of poured in place concrete, EFIS exterior skin, design build mechanical, plumbing, electrical and fire protection, an elaborate restaurant, bar and lounge with large convention rooms. Project completed in 2002. Cost: $27 million, Client: Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant Group

Emerystation North located at 5980 Horton Street in Emeryville is a 6-story, 170,000 SF Office, Lab & Retail Development. The structure included a driven pile foundation system, structural steel with concrete filled metal decks, an elaborate hand laid brick precast panel system of over 600 panels with tiered floor plates creating numerous terraces with decorative structural steel supports, a living-green atrium main lobby and state of the art data and communication systems.

Cost: $36 million, completed in 2001, Client Wareham Development.

 

Seaport Center located in Redwood City overlooks the lower San Francisco Bay and sits only a few feet away from the Redwood City Creek. The project consists of two 3-story buildings of 186,000 SF class A office space and 66,000 SF of parking. Mr. DiDonato’s responsibilities for the project were to erect the concrete foundations and superstructure as the first subcontracted concrete project for Webcor Concrete (a division of Webcor Builders) Cost $ 3.2 million, completed in 1999, Client Barry Swenson.

 

Treat Towers located 1255 and 1277 Treat Blvd in Walnut Creek consists of two 10-story, class-A office towers totaling approximately 395,000 SF and an attractively landscaped concrete podium plaza over 2 floors of below grade parking. The superstructure is structural steel with concrete filled metal decks. The exterior skin consists of window curtain walls, strip glazing and an elaborate stone precast system quarried in Spain, shipped to Italy for sizing and polishing and then shipped to the USA for casting and placement. In addition to the towers the project also contained a 6-story concrete poured in place parking garage for a total of 1,175 parking stalls. Treat Towers briefly held the California record for the largest concrete pour for an 8 hour period where it averaged 800 yards per hour for a total of 6,400 yards. Cost $48 million, Completed in 1998, Client Spieker Properties.

POP 9 located in San Mateo is a 5-story class A office building with 1-level below grade parking garage and concrete podium. The building consists of a mat foundation, structural steel frame with concrete filled metal decks, and a stone veneer / precast exterior skin with strip glazing.

 

Electronic Arts located in Foster City is a 10-story, 300,000 SF corporate headquarters facility for the Electronics for Imaging Co. The building consists of a pile driven foundation, structural steel with concrete filled metal decks, and a stone veneer and precast exterior skin with strip glazing.

 

Home Depot located in Foster City is a 100,000 SF tilt-up retail structure.

 

 

Projects completed as the Carpenter Foreman for Kiewit Pacific, Oakland, California.

 

Cypress Freeway Rebuild located in Oakland was the rebuilding of bridges and roadways due to the damages created by the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. There were several contracts for over 1 billion dollars in which Mr. DiDonato worked on several bridges, abutments and hinge connections as the carpenter foreman. During his brief tenure with Kiewit, Mr. DiDonato revolutionized the hinge construction methods saving tens of thousands of dollars per hinge connection which contributed to the early completion bonus earned by Kiewit.

 

Projects completed as the Carpenter Forman for Conco Cement Company, Concord, California.

 

Lytton Senior Center located in Cupertino was a 3-story wood frame over concrete podium, assisted living development with 1-level of below grade parking.

 

San Francisco Library located in San Francisco. Mr. DiDonato was directly responsible for all below grade structures and concrete work. The numerous challenges for this project included a special bearing plate assembly which was fitted beneath each structural steel column that housed a parabolic bearing plate assembly designed to mitigate earthquake movement. This was a massive concrete project where several thousand yard concrete pours were common.

 

Belleview Hotel located on Taylor Street in San Francisco was a historical renovation project that included the reconstruction and seismic improvements to the Belleview Hotel originally constructed in the early 1900s and was later used to film scenes from the Maltese Falcon movie in 1941. The exterior facades, walls and ornamental features were not to be disturbed as the entire interior structures were removed and replaced with modern construction. There were over 105,000 epoxied dowels for new beams, walls, columns and floors. Mr. DiDonato was responsible for all carpentry and concrete work associated with the project.

 

Richmond Kaiser Hospital located in Richmond, CA was a 4-story structural steel building with concrete filled metal decks.  Mr. DiDonato was responsible for all carpentry and concrete work associated with the project.

 

UC Berkeley Life Science Building located at the University of California, Berkeley was a renovation and seismic retrofit project that consisted of over 65,000 epoxied rebar dowels, new concrete beams, walls, decks and foundations, structural steel bracing and mechanical improvements to accommodate a university laboratory. Mr. DiDonato was responsible for all carpentry and concrete work associated with the project.

 

Hills Bros Coffee Plant Renovation located in San Francisco on the embarcadero next to the Bay Bridge was a renovation and seismic retrofit to the historical Hills Brothers Coffee Plant building. Mr. DiDonato’s responsibilities were to layout all construction components, demolition and supervise the new installation of concrete columns, beams and floors in addition to coordinating with the various other trades such as structural steel, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and fire protection.

Mr. DiDonato was directly involved with over 40 tilt-up structures as a carpenter apprentice, journeyman and lead carpenter from 1983 – 1990.
